Brief description of the field of competence

Digitalisation is a central megatrend that affects both society and companies. Many new potentials arise in companies through digitalisation, from production and employees to the value chain.

After mechanisation, electrification and computerisation of industry, Industry 4.0 denotes a fourth industrial revolution triggered by the progressive development of information and communication technologies (ICT). In this context, the networking of intelligent production systems and new possibilities and forms of human interaction within and between companies play an important role. These potentials face challenges not only in terms of technical implementation, but also in terms of work design and organization in production and production-related areas.

In Kompetenzfeld „Digitalisierung“ of ITA, research and application projects deal with topics such as the design of the digital transformation process in companies, procedures for the selection and implementation of technologies with the involvement of employees. But also the recording of employee requirements in the digital transformation process as well as topics from the field of leadership in digital working environments, agile organizational design, digital learning, digital business models and data protection play a role in the competence field.

All activities are guided by the idea of using the potentials of digitisation for the design of humane work, integrating the interests of all stakeholders.

About the activities in the Kompetenzfeld „Digitalisierung“ ITA pursues the goal of positioning itself as a competence centre for the humane design of digital transformation in Rhineland-Palatinate and beyond. To this end, ITA is active in a broad network of partners in research and implementation.

This will be a key factors in shaping digital change and the concretisation of Industry 4.0 and Work 4.0, among others:

  • to integrate humans as employees into these intelligent systems,
  • to increasingly establish collaborative forms of work,
  • to pursue a participatory development and integrated introduction of CPS in organisations,
  • to design transformation processes that accompany the change from industry 3.0 to 4.0,
  • interlink production or products and services within the framework of Industry 4.0.
