Vitae

Professor Dr. Klaus J. Zink studied Technical Business Management at the University of Karlsruhe and then was working as an Assistant Professor at the Institute for Production Economics and Human Factors (University of Karlsruhe). In 1975 he finished his Ph.D.-Studies (Dr.rer.pol.) and received the "Fritz-Giese"-Award for his doctoral thesis. After his habilitation at the School of Economics and Business Engineering, University of Karlsruhe in 1978, he became Professor at the University of Wuppertal. Since 1980, Klaus Zink is Professor at the University of Kaiserslautern (Chair for Industrial Management and Human Factors). Besides his lecture activities, he is head of the "Institute for Technology and Work" at the same university.

In cooperation with the "Distance and International Studies Center" at the University of Kaiserslautern he is responsible for the European and national post graduate studies referring to "Total Quality Management", "Human Resource Development" and "Economy and Management" In a great number of books, essays and articles he discussed concepts for the development of work and organisations and impacts on the quality of work.
Recent topics are – among others –

  • Stakeholder oriented assessment and
    design of organisations
  • Integrative management concepts
  • Change Management and Participation
  • Inclusive Design Concepts including Life-Cycle aspects

Besides being a member in several national and international committees, Professor Zink has represented Germany in the jury of the European Quality Award from 1992-1999. As chairman of the jury for the German Excellence Award "Ludwig-Erhard-Prize" he has participated decisively in the development and introduction of this award in Germany from 1997-2005.

From 1994-2001 he was a member of the board of the German Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (Gesellschaft für Arbeitswissenschaft (GfA)), from 1997-1999 as President and from 1999-2001 as Past-President. He was a member of the Council of the International Ergonomics Association (IEA) from 1995-2000, a member of the Executive Committee from 2000-2003 and again a Council member from 2004-2009. The IEA elected Professor Zink in 2009 as Vice President/Treasurer. He received the IEA Fellow Award in 2000 and the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) 2006 Distinguished International Colleague Award. In 2009 he became an Academician of the International Academy of Qualtiy (IAQ) and received the IEA "Ergonomics Development Award".

Professor Zink is a member of the Editorial Board of the following journals: "Zeitschrift für Arbeitswissenschaft", "Journal of Innovative Management", "Total Quality Management & Business Excellence", ”The TQM Magazine" and "Human Factors and Ergonomics in Manufacturing". He is also a member of the Best Paper Prize Award Committee of "Total Quality Management and Business Excellence" and "The TQM Magazine". Furthermore, he is co-editor of the book series "Sustainable Development"

Since 2007 he is a member of the executive committee of "Science Alliance", which was founded by eight research institutes at the University of Kaiserslautern.
